It’d be interesting to find out if his aides were consulted on this statement. It didn’t seem like an accident since he repeated the phrase “fire and fury” twice. But did it really scare off North Korea or just escalate the situation dangerously?
It’s these kinds of situations where I’m especially uneasy with Trump. I just don’t get the sense he’s a genius at negotiations since his followers keep making excuses when he fails. And this is as about as high as the stakes get in world diplomacy.
