27 House Republicans send letter to AG Barr asking him to appoint Special Counsel to investigate election fraud

Twenty-seven House Republicans have sent a letter to AG Barr asking him to appoint a special counsel to investigate election fraud:

NY POST – More than two dozen House Republicans have signed onto a letter sent Wednesday urging that President Trump direct Attorney General William Barr to appoint a special counsel to probe 2020 election “irregularities.”

The letter, obtained by The Post, was originally written and sent last Thursday by Rep. Lance Gooden (R-Texas), two days after the nation’s top law enforcement agent said the Justice Department had not uncovered evidence of widespread voter fraud that would alter the outcome of the presidential race.

Gooden opted to resend the letter this week after dozens of GOP lawmakers agreed to add their names to it, including Reps. Andy Biggs of Arizona, Louie Gohmert of Texas, Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Mo Brooks of Alabama.

“Following widespread support from my House Republican colleagues, I am again requesting that you direct Attorney General Barr to appoint a Special Counsel to investigate irregularities in the 2020 election,” Wednesday’s letter began.

“The American people deserve a definitive resolution to the uncertainty hovering over the outcome of our election, but legitimate questions of voter fraud remain unanswered,” it continued.

Republicans point out that there hasn’t been much action on the DOJ:

The letter goes on to bemoan the lack of action by the Justice Department and Barr, who authorized federal prosecutors to investigate allegations of “voting irregularities” in the days after the election was called for President-elect Joe Biden, but said last week that no widespread evidence had been found.

“The Department of Justice has been asked on multiple occasions to launch an investigation into this matter, but inaction from the Department along with public comments made by the Attorney General indicate a lack of willingness to investigate the irregularities your campaign and other elected officials across the nation have alleged,” Gooden stated in the letter, making specific reference to Barr’s comments last week on the probe.

The letter is just one page and you can read it below. I absolutely agree with them that this needs to be done in order to restore trust in our election systems. Democrats just investigated Trump for three years based on phony accusations, and this is far more important to the future of our republic.
