Nate Silver obliterates NYT narrative about Trump and the GOP

The New York Times is selling some narrative that the GOP is “pulling away” from Trump and that they have little to fear from him – clearly for the sake of pleasing their left-wing audience.

But according to Nate Silver, the facts show anything but the New York Times’ conclusion.

Here’s some of the text from the NYT:

“It does seem like we have an upheaval, a crisis almost every day in Washington that changes the subject,” Senator Susan Collins, Republican of Maine, who has been trying to advance health care legislation, said in a television interview on Thursday night.

The latest subject-changing crisis has been the fallout from Mr. Trump’s sudden dismissal of Mr. Comey, who was leading the F.B.I.’s investigation into contacts between the Trump campaign and Russia. Mr. Trump suggested last week that he might have surreptitiously taped his conversations with Mr. Comey, and on Sunday two Republican senators, Mike Lee of Utah and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, said the president should turn over any such tapes, if they exist.

Yeah, OK, but what about their actual voting record?

Silver links to an analysis on his website showing how often members of Congress voted with Trump’s preference:

Now this doesn’t predict the future of course – this week has been especially bad for Trump and I could see Republicans dropping him if their constituents speak up. Then again, we posted a poll earlier that showed he only dropped ONE point of support. So… about that narrative…

OK this is the last post for Sunday.

Have yourselves a merry little OPEN THREAD.

Politics kinda sucks right now.

So here’s a cute duckling video:

Awww.

Hope you had a good Mother’s Day – appreciate them moms while you have them, folks. And for those who are grieving the loss or memory of motherhood in any way today, I hope you find some solace.
