Reuters pushes misleading graph of Trump deportations

There’s a new report from Reuters trying to argue that the Trump administration is deporting people they said they weren’t going to deport – those people given amnesty by Obama.

But along the way they’re pushing a really false and misleading graph.

They’re even posting it as an animated gif:

This is a graph of the numbers of “closures” which means cases of deportation that immigration officials simply lock away and ignore. It LOOKS like Trump severely decreased them by a YUGE margin. But that last bar only represents January, and only the first 19 days of January!!

I mean c’mon. That’s insane. If you extrapolate out the same rate for the rest of the year, the number of closures fall somewhere in between those of 2013 and 2014. So why the hysterics?

Because they want to portray Trump in the worst possible light of course…
