Fox and Friends had to correct a fake news story they exaggerated to smear James Comey, and of course, it ended up in a yugely retweeted tweet by the Donald.

James Comey leaked CLASSIFIED INFORMATION to the media. That is so illegal!

Yeah no, he didn’t.
On Monday, the show used a report from The Hill to falsely claim that Comey leaked, through a friend, memos containing “top secret” information to The New York Times. In a brief comment on Tuesday’s show, host Steve Doocy repeated the claim before adding, “We were mistaken in that. According to the report, half of the memos contained information classified at the secret or confidential level, not top secret.”
The report, which has not been confirmed, said there was classified information in his other memos, not the one leaked to the New York Times. And that may not be true either.
Correction: Comey's memos did not have top secret info. The report says half were classified at secret or confidential level, not top secret

Here’s the video of the report, it’s still up, of course.

And that’s how fake news is made, my friends.
