There’s a yuge campaign underfoot to portray Trump’s national security advisor H.R. McMaster as a traitor to Trumpism, and to get the president to fire him.
They’re not gonna like what Trump said tonight about it.
“…after two days of unrelenting attacks on General McMaster by conservative activists and news sites, complete with the Twitter hashtag #FireMcMaster, the president weighed in to quash such talk. “General McMaster and I are working very well together,” he said in a statement emailed to The New York Times. “He is a good man and very pro-Israel. I am grateful for the work he continues to do serving our country.”
A senior White House official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to describe the president’s views, added that Mr. Trump has “total confidence” in his national security adviser.
What they’re harping about is the firing of certain staffers who are said to be stalwart Trumpers. But that’s not a qualification for every job, right? You need to be more than simply a faithful believer in Trumpism to be a useful member of the administration. Another accusation they lob at him is that he allowed Susan Rice to keep her clearance status in April. But again, from what I hear, that’s very normal when a person is under investigation and they need to review the documents they used to have access to.
So while there’s a big huge conspiracy theory over McMaster, it seems Trump is finally showing himself above such silly things.
