Last night Seth Meyers took issue with Meghan McCain bringing up Ilhan Omar’s 9/11 comments on ABC This Week after the latest synagogue shooting, forcing Meghan McCain to defend herself. And it got kinda tense:
Seth Meyers’ main point was that Omar has since “unequivocally” apologized for her tweets, so Meghan shouldn’t be bringing them up any more.
But that’s absurd because Omar’s comments weren’t even the point of Meghan’s comments on ABC This Week. She was responding to the liberal argument blaming Trump for the attacks against Jewish synagogues. Meghan’s point in bringing up Omar’s comments was to point out that Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats refused to hold Omar accountable for her anti-Semitism and that if you’re going to call Trump out for his leadership, you should call out Democrats on this as well. See for yourself.
It was on this basis that Meyers felt the need to defend Omar, which is ridiculous.
At one point Meghan actually asks Meyers “Are you Ilhan Omar’s publicist” because of the staunch position he was taking to defend her.
And she’s also right to ask him if he’d ever defend Trump in this way because you know that would never happen. Even when Trump gets accused of things he didn’t say, has Seth Meyers ever defending him from false accusations?
Erick Erickson also has an intersting point on this:
We had an assassination attempt against GOP members of Congress, but I don’t remember late night comedians thinking they needed to stop suggesting Republicans want to kill people. But @MeghanMcCain calls out an apologist for terrorists and *her words* are considered dangerous? 🙄
