Trump is planning a huge 4th of July celebration for Independence Day tomorrow and he’s driving Democrats nuts. They are accusing him of all manner of evil over this celebration.
But first, here’s what Reuters says about the event:
Battle tanks were seen on a train in Washington on Tuesday ahead of a July Fourth celebration highlighting U.S. military might that Democrats say President Donald Trump may turn into a re-election campaign rally.
Amid questions about the cost and tone of the event, White House officials said the Republican president will avoid politics and stick to patriotic themes in his speech in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington on Thursday.
Reuters photographed M1 Abrams tanks and other armored vehicles atop flat rail cars in Washington on Tuesday morning, a sign of the military firepower that will be featured, differing significantly from past annual celebrations of the 1776 Declaration of Independence.
This year, Trump plans to speak at a military “Salute to America” that will feature military bands and flyovers from the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels and Air Force One, the modified Boeing 747 that transports U.S. presidents.
The event could also feature M1 Abrams battle tanks, a B-2 bomber, F-35 and F-22 fighter jets, and the Marine One helicopter that transports the president, the Pentagon said. Air traffic at nearby Ronald Reagan National Airport will be suspended during the flyovers and the fireworks, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
The DC Mayor is accusing Trump of copying ‘dictators’:
Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) said this week that it “scares” her that President Trump’s planned event for the Fourth of July is “glorifying military might,” in an interview with NPR.
Bowser expressed concerns over the president looking “to dictators as an example of how to celebrate your nation” as well as using the occasion to show off military might.
“I also have some concerns about a president not celebrating the military but glorifying military might,” Bowser said Tuesday in an interview with NPR. “That scares me the most.”
Joy Reid at MSNBC says Trump’s display of military is a THREAT to his critics in this country or something:
Utter nonsense. Democrats are losing their minds over this.
Look, I was never for a military parade showcasing our military equipment and I’m glad we aren’t having one. To me this won’t be nearly the spectacle that would be, and I’m happy about that. But on the flip side, I’m not really a huge fan of this either. I’d much rather this be about the troops and not about the military vehicles of war. But it looks like we’re going to get plenty of both.
Will the kids love it? Absolutely. Who doesn’t like spending the day at an airshow, looking at different kinds of airplanes. And this is even cooler because it’s military. I’ve no doubt that everyone who attends this celebration will have a great time.
At the end of the day this doesn’t bother me all that much because it’s just a celebration of America. Trump is putting on a huge show because, let’s face it, that’s what Trump does. He’s not copying dictators and he doesn’t mean this as a threat to anyone.
Trump is just a different kind of leader, one who clearly loves military might. Not because he wants to go on a rampage though Europe – we’ve seen how far he’s gone to avoid war. Trump is really like a big kid of who loves power and might and wants Americans to be proud of all aspects of their military. And I really think he wants them to have a great time tomorrow.
