Dan Crenshaw made a video yesterday explaining why he voted for the 1.4 trillion dollar monstrosity of a spending bill yesterday in the House.

Today’s votes on the appropriations bills. There are problems with the process and top-line spending. But I voted for both bills. Here is why: pic.twitter.com/FtuLGXnfNQ
— Rep. Dan Crenshaw (@RepDanCrenshaw) December 18, 2019
In short, Crenshaw voted for the bill because it was a “well negotiated bill” that had a lot of good stuff in it. Namely:
- More money to build the border wall
- More money to hire more border agents
- Removal of taxes on insurance and medical devices which will drive down costs for healthcare
- The SECURE Act, which gives millions of Americans access to retirement accounts
- Money to maintain Houston’s ship channel
- FEMA disaster relief money
Crenshaw said he disagrees with the top line spending in the bill, but added that he already voted against the budget cap deal which addressed top line spending and Republicans lost that battle.
Further, he said that while this bill spends a lot of money, it really only accounts for 30% of overall spending because it’s discretionary spending. He says this kind of spending is actually going down and is below historical averages.
Crenshaw says that he is very concerned about long-term debt, but what is really causing that is the mandatory spending on programs like Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security, which must be addressed and reformed.
