WATCH: Governor Kemp defends decision to open economy on Fox News

Governor Kemp, who announced yesterday that he would begin reopening the economy in Georgia was on with Martha MacCallum tonight to answer his critics that he’s moving too fast:

Kemp explained that he’s not making this decision lightly, that he and one of the top epidemiologists in the country poured over data and looked at many different models before deciding this was the right course of action to take.

Kemp also noted several times in the interview that this is a very measured reopening. He said they closed the economy in a measured way and now they are reopening it in a measured way.

When asked by McCallum why he’s starting with hair and nail salons, gyms, and other close contact business, Kemp merely explained that those are the businesses are closed. He said other businesses are still open under the order he has now. He also added that he has faith that within these businesses, say a gym for example, they will spread people out and practice social distancing.
