In talking about Dick Cheney’s new book this morning, Joe Scarborough on Morning Joe was making the point that Obama has continued many of the Bush policies, especially those policies that the left hated so dearly like unilateralism, except that instead of capturing interrogating detainees he’s chosen assassination. And yet the left is completely silent. Answering this charge, Columbia professor Jeffrey Sachs pointed out the that the big difference is that Cheney was a relentless liar and misuser of intelligence while Obama is just a victim of ‘drift’:
Joe is right, that it does make scum like Jeffrey Sachs feel better to say such things. And they don’t mind being hypocrites either for their cause. Obama assassinates these high value targets via predator drones and all the pertinent information that only these terrorists know dies with them and their families. Yet for some reason it was worse for the Bush administration to capture these terrorists and use enhanced interrogations on them which lead to getting information that saved lives. As Joe put it later on in the show, why is it morally better to drop a bomb on a terrorists home and kill him and his family?
