Kevin McCarthy said last night after the Republican Conference had met that Marjorie Taylor Greene had apologized and denounced QAnon as well as the other conspiracies that were attributed to her like the Jewish laser:
MCCARTHY: We denounce anything that we’ve seen that was said in that past. From anything with QAnon has no place in our party.
And Marjorie Greene actually said that in our conference today. She said it before but she said it from the shootings and everywhere else.
…She came inside our conference and denounced them as well. She said she was wrong. She has reached out in other ways and forms. And nothing that she has said has been based upon since she’s been a member of Congress. The voters decided she could come and serve. When she sent and denounced all those inside our chambers…
REPORTER 1: She should come and apologize for her past comments…
MCCARTHY: That’s exactly what she did.
REPORTER 1: Publicly though…
MCCARTHY: That’s what she did inside our conference.
REPORTER 2: Do Democrats deserve to hear that same apology that she gave…
MCCARTHY: Well I think everybody should hear that. She has expressed that she has put it out to news agencies and others. I think it would be helpful if you could hear exactly what she told all of us, denouncing QAnon… Any from the shootings – she said she knew nothing about lasers or all the different things that have been brought up about her. And so from that perspective, she’s now a member…
If we’re now going to start judging what other members have said before they’re even members of Congress, I think it’s going to be a hard time for the Democrats to place anybody on a committee.
It sounds like Greene has repaired relations with her fellow Republicans and that’s good to hear. And Kevin McCarthy now has her back publicly, which is also good to see. He clearly stands with her as a member of his caucus against the ravaging wolves in the Democrat party and the media.
She’ll still likely lose her committee assignments today because Democrats are going to force a vote on the issue. And it will be very interesting to see who votes with Democrats. If the caucus stands together, with Greene, it will be a great thing. But something tells me that won’t happen. We’ll see.
