Former AG Barr is telling NBC’s Lester Holt that he believes President Trump was responsible for what happened on January 6th:
Barr said:
I do think he was responsible in the broad sense of that word, in that it appears that part of the plan was to send this group up to the Hill. I think the whole idea was to intimidate Congress, and I think that that was wrong.
According to the New York Post, Barr stopped short of saying Trump was criminally responsible:
However, Barr added that he had not “seen anything to say he [Trump] was legally responsible for it in terms of incitement.”
Well I guess that’s something.
Honestly, I don’t think it ever entered Trump’s mind that people would be rioting in the Capitol. He thought they’d be going to the lawn to peacefully protest and that’s what he encouraged. For Barr to blame the Capitol riot on him, even broadly, is unfair. But Democrats will eat it up because they can’t get enough of anti-Trump.
