A transgender cyclist was banned from participating in the British National Omnium Championship that took place this weekend after some of the female racers threatened to boycott.
According to the Guardian, “a number of female riders were talking about boycotting the event in Derby” because they felt that Emily Bridges, formerly known as Zack Bridges, had an unfair advantage.
Indeed, the organization that put on the championship race followed suit by banning Bridges from the race, saying that he was still registered as a man and therefore he could not compete.
The UCI cycling ID for Bridges, who began hormone therapy last month, must expire before he’s allowed to compete against women.
Which means that this excuse will probably only work this time and that the female riders who were considering a boycott will more than likely be forced to do it next time.
Obviously, the trajectory of all this is in favor of biological males competing against women in female sports.
