Merry Christmas to all The Right Scoop readers. I hope you are having a wonderful Christmas filled with family and food. But not too much of either.
Since I’ve been absent from the site for a while, I wanted to give you an update on my condition since I just had colorectal cancer surgery ten days ago.
The surgery, which lasted 12 hours, was a raving success. The surgeon was able to remove the cancer and put me back together and I am on the mend. It was a difficult surgery from what I understand (I was asleep), but I got through it with only minor complications.
One of which was my left calf. It’s been badly swollen since the surgery because I guess it didn’t appreciate being in a stirrup for 12 hours, and has left me barely able to walk while I wait on that to heal. It’s taking forever, but I can thankfully somewhat walk on it now around the house. But it was why I was in the hospital for six days instead of three.
The initial plan was to have me walking the day of my surgery in order to get my digestive system moving again. But they were unable to do that because of the calf, which meant I had to try and wake it back up while on my back. That’s not an easy task and led to a bit of suffering on my part, but exactly one week ago things started getting better. By Monday and Tuesday I was walking good enough to go home.
It’s still going to be a few months before I’m completely healed, but we’re well on the way. I’m just thankful I can cough without immense pain now, which means the incisions in my stomach area are healing nicely.
I should be back writing here tomorrow morning and I want thank Fred T for pinch hitting for me while I’ve been gone. He’s done a great job with all that he’s got on his plate.
I’d also like to thank Jesus and His blessed Mother for leading me through this cancer journey and putting me in talented hands. Pretty soon all of this will be behind me.
Thanks to all of you for your prayers. They really mean a lot.
And a special thank you to my close friends who’ve been helping me through this. You know who you are and I couldn’t have done it without you. You are very close to my heart.
Merry Christmas!
