Michele Bachmann challenged from LGBT student

I don’t think I’ve seen a candidate thus far handle a challenge like this as well as Bachmann does in this clip. In fact, I believe that she looked very statesman like in this clip.

She’s basically asked how she will support the LGBT community in schools by a student that’s involved in the GSA (Gay Student Union). Without condescension, she explained to the student that every American has civil rights and it’s the government’s job to protect those rights, but that sexual preferences aren’t one of those rights.

That exchange goes on a bit longer, but what I loved most about this clip is how Bachmann framed the idea that the federal government shouldn’t have any say over what goes on in schools, that it should be the local community that should decide how schools are run. And that’s why Bachmann says she will abolish the Department of Education and get the federal government out of the school systems:
