*Did I say hire? I meant endorse.
TV’s Andy Levy puts it best:
@andylevy: I will vote for whichever GOP candidate refuses to participate in the #trumpdebate
So far, that list includes Jon Huntsman and nobody else.
What a joke. Is this what our nominating process has come to?
For those who think the GOP presidential race doesn’t sometimes feel like a reality TV show, Donald Trump will be moderating an upcoming debate.
The real estate mogul and host of NBC’s The Celebrity Apprentice has signed on to be moderator for a Dec. 27 debate hosted by Newsmax, the conservative website and magazine. It will be broadcast on ION Television, a cable network.
“I was asked to do it by a number of people, including some of my friends that are Republicans, strong Republicans,” Trump told MSNBC. “I thought it would certainly be a little change of pace for Donald Trump, so I’ll do something I haven’t done before.”
Christopher Ruddy, chief executive of Newsmax, told The New York Times that “our readers and the grass roots really love Trump.”
Trump flirted with running for the GOP presidential nomination, but abandoned that quest to keep his eye on his business and TV gig. The Celebrity Apprentice returns on Feb. 12.
Several GOP presidential candidates have made the trek to the Trump Tower in New York City to chat with Trump, who plans to sit down Monday with current front-runner Newt Gingrich.
Asked by MSNBC if he thought this GOP debate could come off like an episode of his show, Trump was undaunted.
“Well, I hope it does as well as The Apprentice,” he responded.
Invitations have been sent out to the major candidates, but no word yet on who will be participating.
