Senate Republicans won a significant victory today against their Democratic counterparts over the issue of replacing Dianne Feinstein on the Judiciary Committee.
The elderly Feinstein has been out with the shingles since February and several Democrats have called on her to resign.
Democrats on the committee want to temporarily replace her so that they can resume pushing through Biden’s terrible judicial nominees, but Republican members refused to allow such a move to take place.
Lindsey Graham, the ranking member on the committee, objected to Schumer’s motion to replace Feinstein and said to “change the numbers on the committee in a way that I think would be harmful to Senate, and to pass out a handful of judges that I think should never be on the bench.”
According to the Associated Press, even if Schumer holds a roll call vote on the motion it will likely be defeated as Republicans are united on the issue.
McConnell also chimed in on the issue on the House floor per the AP, saying “Let’s be clear. Senate Republicans will not take part in sidelining a temporarily absent colleague off a committee just so Democrats can force through their very worst nominees.”
So for the moment, the issue of replacing Feinstein is dead. Even if there is a floor vote, it doesn’t look like Democrats are going to find the ten needed Republicans to help them.
