The unfair attacks on JD Vance have just begun. He’s already being taken out of context by a comment he made on Tucker Carlson’s show in 2021 that echoed what he said in a speech. He was talking about how we’ve let ‘childless cat ladies’ like Kamala Harris run our country.
Here’s the attack:
JD Vance says women who haven’t given birth like Kamala Harris are “childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives,” and have “no direct stake” in America. pic.twitter.com/3DJY3pQTGe

That video has had over 28 million views and some conservatives are responding to it with great anger:
I’m a right-leaning woman who agrees with almost nothing the Biden-Harris administration has done, but the primal hatred and disgust Vance stokes in me transcends politics. I suspect I am not the only woman of my vintage, so to speak, who feels this way. https://t.co/iNVeexahGk

I’m childless on earth, but I have a baby in heaven due to an ectopic pregnancy. Not all women who don’t have children are childless by choice. It adds insult to injury, to put it mildly, when these comments are said.

And of course Meghan McCain had to weigh in, calling it ‘cruelty to women’:
One of my best friends did rounds and rounds of unsuccessful IVF wanting to have a child. It is still painful to talk about.
This “childless women” comment by JD Vance has made so many waves with so many different friends of mine for it’s insensitivity and cruelty to women. https://t.co/6FfagKwzAV

But was he really talking about women who can’t have children? No. Karoline Leavitt gives the fuller context to this ‘cat ladies’ comment:
“A lot of people are unable to have kids for very complicated and important reasons…there are people of course for biological reasons, medical reasons that can’t have children. The target of these remarks is not them.”
As a new mom, my heart aches for women who are unable to bear children. @JDVance words are being taken out of context and unfairly attacked.

He’s talking about women who can have children but don’t want them, and we’re letting these childless women run our country. Whatever you think about what he said, at least don’t take him out of context. Because what he said isn’t cruel or insensitive when you understand who he was talking about.
