It’s just being reported that two National Guard soldiers were shot near the White House today and we don’t know their condition or anything about the incident other than the shooting.
Here’s more via AP:
Two National Guard soldiers were shot Wednesday near the White House and their conditions aren’t immediately known, according to a law enforcement official not authorized to discuss the matter publicly and spoke to AP on condition of anonymity.
Emergency vehicles were seen responding to the area. The Joint DC Task Force confirmed they were responding to an incident in the vicinity of the White House in the movements after reports of the shooting. However, the spokesperson wouldn’t immediately confirm or deny if any National Guard members had been shot.
The Metropolitan Police Department said they were responding to a shooting but didn’t immediately provide more information.
A spokesperson for Mayor Muriel Bowser said that local leaders were actively monitoring the situation.
President Donald Trump was at his West Palm Beach golf course when the shooting took place.
UPDATE 1: The National Guard soldiers, a man and woman, are in critical condition and a suspect is in custody. Via ABC News:
The two injured National Guard members are a woman and man. Both are in critical condition, according to a law enforcement official briefed on the situation.
One suspect is in custody, the Metropolitan Police Department said, and the scene has been secured. A man believed to be suspect in critical condition, the law enforcement official said.
Multiple law enforcement agencies, including U.S. Marshalls, ATF and the FBI, responded to the shooting. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said her agency was working with local authorities to gather more information.
According to a D.C. police official, there was an active shooter incident reported at 2:20 p.m. ET at the entrance to the Farragut West Metro station.
President Trump also remarked on this from Mar-a-Lago, saying the suspect is also severely wounded and in the hospital:
The animal that shot the two National Guardsmen, with both being critically wounded, and now in two separate hospitals, is also severely wounded, but regardless, will pay a very steep price. God bless our Great National Guard, and all of our Military and Law Enforcement. These are truly Great People. I, as President of the United States, and everyone associated with the Office of the Presidency, am with you!
MAJOR UPDATE: National Guard members have died from their wounds, according to the Governor of West Virginia:
It is with great sorrow that we can confirm both members of the West Virginia National Guard who were shot earlier today in Washington, DC have passed away from their injuries. These brave West Virginians lost their lives in the service of their country. We are in ongoing contact with federal officials as the investigation continues.
Our entire state grieves with their families, their loved ones, and the Guard community. West Virginia will never forget their service or their sacrifice, and we will demand full accountability for this horrific act.

Man this totally sucks. Ugh.
UPDATE 2: FBI Director Kash Patel says the National Guardsmen are in critical condition:
From the way he said it, I don’t know if he’s operating off of old information or if this is current.
UPDATE 3: The West Virginia says they are receiving conflicting reports on the National Guardsmen, so perhaps Patel is right:
We are now receiving conflicting reports about the condition of our two Guard members and will provide additional updates once we receive more complete information.
Our prayers are with these brave service members, their families, and the entire Guard community.
