Senate Majority Leader John Thune just publicly refused President Trump’s request to get rid of the Blue Slip policy, saying too many Senators support the policy.

It sounds to me like Thune is one of the Senators who does support the policy, meaning he’s not inclined to go fight for the policy to be removed. That’s my takeaway from this and I am sure Trump will not be happy about it.
