It’s that time of year again where we hustle and bustle with food, presents, gatherings and family. And amidst it all, our Savior waits for us to contemplate his first coming nearly 2,000 years ago.
I am as guilty as anyone of being distracted with things that I enjoy, so that I completely forget (or ignore) the most important thing that that exists in the entire universe, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. And his first coming was nothing short of insanely unselfish miracle of love for us.
As I ponder this, I realize that Jesus gave up so much just to be with us, to have his soul knit into a body of his own creation, just like ours, and put forth inside the womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary, leaving incomprehensible love and joy in Heaven to become small and ordinary, at least in earthly terms, all to save us from sin so that we could be with him for eternity.
And here I am playing with the equivalent of mud pies, as CS Lewis once wrote, while that same incomprehensible joy is being offered me.
I say all this to simply remind you (and me) of what this season is really all about, and I wish you a very blessed, wonderful and Holy Christmas.
