School officials say Tuesday afternoon 5-year-old preschool student, Liam Ramos, was detained by federal agents alongside his father as they were driving home from school.
“Why detain a 5-year-old? You can’t tell me this child is going to be classified as a violent criminal,” Stenvik says.
The family’s immigration lawyer, Marc Prokosch, says Liam and his father are likely being held at a detention facility in Texas.
“We have clients who, after they are picked up, are whisked away to the airport literally within hours,” Prokosch says.
“The family is pursuing an asylum plan, which is lawful to do.”
Ella Sullivan is Liam’s preschool teacher.
She says her students haven’t asked about Liam yet, but they will, and she and other teachers wonder how they can answer their questions.
“He’s a bright young student and so kind and loving. All I want is for him to be safe and back here,” Sullivan says.
But DHS said this morning that this is completely false, that the child was abandoned and was not a target:
