Nick Shirley went to Cuba to film what it’s really like in a communist country, and almost became a hostage himself. He said the confiscated all his camera gear, minus his iphone, and then put spies on him the entire time he was there, which wasn’t long – around 24 hours.
In the video below, Shirley is still in Cuba and explains what’s happening and how he planning his escape so that he doesn’t become a prisoner there.
To be clear, he did escape, which is why this video is out.
He writes:
I was almost taken hostage in Cuba…
I went to Cuba to document the humanitarian crisis and show life under 60+ years of communism and now amid the US blockade. Once I landed, they seized all my cameras except my iPhone and had intelligence agents following me all day until my security noticed their spies tailing us to the hotel where they waited all night for us to come down.
Under communism there is no free speech, and those who show the reality or speak up are imprisoned. Me going without a planned Cuban government guide nearly got me and my security taken hostage or imprisoned.
The situation in Cuba is much worse than anyone knows.

He added…
All those people who went to Cuba had government guides giving them a tour and showing them everything they filmed and portrayed.
I went alone without any government guides. That’s why they put spies on me… craziest 24hrs of my life.
Full video will be eye opening.
