The scandal in North Carolina over ex-governor Roy Cooper’s despicable prisoner releases during the “pandemic” is now being tied directly to current Gov. Josh Stein, whose secretive negotiations were instrumental in freeing hundreds of violent inmates to satisfy far left pressure groups whining about COVID.
You may recall this scandal coming up when Iryna Zarutska was brutally murdered on a Charlotte light rail train by a vile, malicious, evil repeat offender whose name was infamously on the list of 3500 early release prisoners under Cooper and Stein’s debacle. The state has since tried to convince everyone he was set to be released anyway so it wasn’t really early. Uh, sure guys.
Republicans in the state legislature formed an oversight subcommittee to investigate the widely criticized early releases, they announced last month. “The release of violent, repeat offenders back onto our streets is a serious miscarriage of justice. If Roy Cooper or any other official failed to keep the public safe, the people of this state deserve to know about it,” wrote Speaker Destin Hall on X.
And their attention is as firmly on Stein as Cooper. The former AG and current gov is under the microscope for his role in making moronic plan a reality, sending violent offenders out among the public because of supposed pandemic risk to prisoners.
The Daily Caller News Foundation reported on the latest this week:
Stein’s office played a crucial role by capitulating to leftist criminal reform groups who sued in 2020 over the pandemic’s effect on prisons, but he skated to the governor’s mansion in the 2024 elections without enduring as much controversy.
The Caller also reached out to the Republicans investigating:
“This was a lawsuit brought on by Roy Cooper and Josh Stein’s far-left allies, and it was settled in a way that shielded the public from knowing the true extent of its impact,” a spokesperson for Republican North Carolina state Sen. Phil Berger told the Daily Caller News Foundation. Berger is co-leading a new legislative commission tasked with investigating the settlement.
“The Stein administration is just as responsible” for the criminals’ releases as Cooper, the spokesperson said.
Berger’s office continued in remarks to the Daily Caller:
“It’s clear the North Carolina-based press corps doesn’t want to jeopardize its access to both Gov. Stein and Roy Cooper by asking them real questions about why they released thousands of criminals and hid their identities through legal smoke screens,” his spokesperson told the DCNF. “There were violent, repeat offenders on the secret settlement list and Republicans in the General Assembly are going to get to the bottom of why the public was largely kept in the dark about who was released and why.”
There’s a lot more there about the background of this, but it’s not that complicated. It’s pretty simple when you get right down to it.
Stein’s office engaged in secretive negotiations with far-left agitators to unleash violent murder and mayhem on Americans, using the pandemic as an excuse to do what far-left and Soros-aligned groups are always doing anyway under whatever fig leaf excuse they can concoct. And North Carolina’s Democrat leaders did what Democrats do, pretend their arms are being twisted as they do what they also want to do anyway: sow misery and harm for their own twisted gain.
Oh by the way, Stein is a leading contender for Democrats to run in 2028. Ain’t that grand?
