President Trump just made an announcement regarding Iran’s enriched uranium, describing what will happen to it, either by force, or in coordination with Iran.
In short, it sounds like we’re going to take in and destroy it – or Iran can work with us to destroy it there.
Here’s what he said:
The Enriched Uranium (Nuclear Dust!) will either be immediately turned over to the United States to be brought home and destroyed or, preferably, in conjunction and coordination with the Islamic Republic of Iran, destroyed in place or, at another acceptable location, with the Atomic Energy Commission, or its equivalent, being witness to this process and event. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DJT
I guarantee you Iran will not turn it over. My guess it will have to be destroyed on the ground there. The problem is, it’s not just sitting on a shelf in a warehouse somewhere in Tehran. It’s buried under a huge amount of destruction – at least some of it. According to Trump, Iran can’t dig it out on their own. If the US has to dig it out, that’s going to take time and a massive force on the ground to protect those trying to access it.
So even with what Trump said, I’m not sure exactly how this is going to play out.
