The Supreme Court has just ruled in favor of President Trump’s ability to fire Rebecca Slaughter, a Democrat appointee to the Federal Trade Commission, but rules against the firing of Lisa Cook, a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, saying she can remain in her position for now.
- The vote in the case on the firing of Lisa Cook is 5-4. Sotomayor, Kagan, Kavanaugh, and Jackson join the Chief Justice Roberts.
- The vote in the case on Rebecca Slaughter’s firing is 6-3. Sotomayor dissents, joined by Jackson and Kagan.

UPDATE: I misunderstood the ruling on Lisa Cook, and have updated to correct.
UPDATE 2: According to John Yoo on Fox News, the big case among the two here is the Slaughter firing, because the court ruled that the FTC’s ‘just cause’ policy is contrary to the Constitutional powers of the president. He suggests the Lisa Cook case is a much smaller issue in the grand scheme of things because she’s just on the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve.
