Looks like Santorum has a firm lead in Michigan which has got to be bugging the heck out of Romney. And probably Gingrich too:
POLITICAL WIRE – A new American Research Group survey in Michigan shows Rick Santorum leading the GOP primary field with 33%, followed by Mitt Romney at 27%, Newt Gingrich at 21% and Ron Paul at 12%.
A Public Policy Polling survey finds Santorum with a huge lead over Romney, 39% to 24%, followed by Paul at 12% and Gingrich at 11%.
“Santorum’s rise is attributable to two major factors: his own personal popularity (a stellar 67/23 favorability) and GOP voters increasingly souring on Gingrich. Santorum’s becoming something closer and closer to a consensus conservative candidate as Gingrich bleeds support.”
Public Policy Polling also tweeted the following this morning:
Santorum’s ahead of Romney everywhere in Michigan except Oakland County.
The big caveat in Michigan– 52% of voters say they could change their minds in the next 2 weeks.
52% of Romney’s voters in MI are strongly committed, only 46% of Santorum’s are.
Santorum’s support right now is broad, but it’s not deep. Lots of room for volatility in next 2 weeks
Let’s hope Santorum can hang on to his lead amid the politics of destruction ads from Romney.
