Board members fighting to stop Michelle Obama from using their school for campaign event

School board members in Miami, Florida, are fighting to stop Michelle Obama from staging a campaign event at one of their high schools.

Carlos Curbelo and Renier Diaz de la Portilla, both Republicans, say it is inappropriate for the First Lady to use a public school for a political stop.

They said if the President or Mrs Obama were coming for an official visit, there would be no problem.

Now, they have asked the attorney for the Miami-Dade School Board to review his decision to rent Goleman Senior High School in Miami Lakes out to the Obama campaign, the Miami Herald reported.

‘Allowing the first lady of the United States to use one of our schools explicitly to benefit the president’s reelection campaign is inappropriate and sends the wrong message to our students, employees, and to taxpayers – even if the president’s campaign is willing to pay for all costs resulting from the event,’ Mr Curbelo wrote to lawyer Walter Harvey.
