Last night ABC News released an article claiming that an advisor to the Ukrainian president said that discussing the Biden probe was a condition for the phone call:
JUST IN: Ukrainian officials understood discussion of Biden probe was a condition for any phone call between Pres. Trump and Ukrainian Pres. Zelenskiy, an adviser to Zelenskiy tells @ABC News. https://t.co/WTZIt0daH0

It sounds bad. A presidential advisor, who would likely know, is telling us that the only way Trump would talk to the new president is if they agreed to discuss a probe into Biden.
But that was last night. Today there’s a big correction at the top of the article informing readers that the advisor to the Ukrainian president isn’t actually an advisor to the Ukrainian president. Woops!
CORRECTION: An earlier version of this article incorrectly described Serhiy Leshchenko as a current advisor to Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelenskiy. Leshchenko advised Zelenskiy’s transition team following his election in April but has since been distanced by the administration. He is no longer advising Zelenskiy.
Further, a reporter with Radio Free Europe spoke with Leshchenko, who says he NEVER told ABC News that discussion of the Biden probe was a precondition of the call:
Setting record straight: @Leshchenkos confirmed to me what those of us in Kyiv already knew—he is NOT currently an advisor to Ukraine's Zelenskiy & wasn't at time of July 25 call. He said he DID NOT tell ABC insistence for leaders to discuss Biden probe was precondition for call. https://t.co/fNh5sMYj9i

So it appears ABC News got this story completely wrong. Not an advisor to the Ukrainian president and not a precondition for the phone call. Wow.
Honestly, this is why I didn’t post the story last night because it sounded too contradictory to be true. Now I’m glad I waited.
Unless ABC News likes having fake news egg all over its face, I suggest they discipline the reporters who wrote this story and the editor who let it go through.
