ABSURD: French Cosplay champion BANNED because her costume included ‘blackface’

This obsession with stamping out racism, even in places where it isn’t present, has hit the cosplay world. A French female wold class cosplay champ was banned from an elite competition because her character was black, and she accurately portrayed him.

Wow. That costume is incredible. Unfortunately, it’s not allowed.

More from Sky News:

French Cosplay Cup winner Alice Livanart was told she would no longer be able to compete at the London event as Pyke – a character from League of Legends – because she had chosen a character whose skin tone was darker than her own.

The video game character – an undead deep-sea harpooner – although entirely fictional, is widely considered to be black.

Speaking at MCM Comic Con London, guest judge Diana Tolin told Sky News that while she understood there was probably no intention to offend, it did not give the French competitor the right to take on the role.

An experienced cosplayer of over 20 years herself, she explained: “I very strongly believe that cosplay is for everyone and we should give really good representation to our cosplayers of colour.

It’s so ridiculous. This is just like “no tolerance” laws – they are designed to remove any responsibility and judgement from administrators because they’re too cowardly to actually do their job. In this case, there’s a world of difference between someone donning blackface to mock an entire culture, and this person doing it as a show of appreciation and respect to a fictional character. Just who is being offended by this? I hope our society gets back to sanity someday…

By the way, I’ve never heard of the character so I had to look him up. Here’s a video of gameplay for the Pyke character.

Pretty cool.
