Dutch police believe the man suspected of stabbing two Americans in Amsterdam this weekend had a “terrorist motive,” The Associated Press reported Sunday.
The AP reported that Dutch police are questioning a 19-year-old Afghan man in the incident, in which two American tourists were stabbed in Amsterdam’s main railway station. The suspected, who has been identified by police only as Jawed S., is scheduled to have a closed hearing on Monday.
“Based on the suspect’s first statements, he had a terrorist motive,” Amsterdam officials said in a statement on Saturday, without elaborating on what the individual said.
The Americans are in the hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
