Almost 2,000 former DOJ officials attack AG Barr, accuse him of “assaulting the rule of law” in Flynn case

A group of almost 2,000 former DOJ officials are attacking AG Barr in a new letter they all signed, accusing him of “assaulting the rule of law” and “political interference” in dropping the case against Michael Flynn:

ABC NEWS – Nearly 2000 former Justice Department officials have signed onto a letter calling for Attorney General William Barr to resign over what they describe as his improper intervention in the criminal case of former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn.

The letter, signed mostly by former career officials in the department, accuses Barr of joining with President Trump in “political interference in the Department’s law enforcement decisions.”

“Attorney General Barr’s repeated actions to use the Department as a tool to further President Trump’s personal and political interests have undermined any claim to the deference that courts usually apply to the Department’s decisions about whether or not to prosecute a case,” reads the letter, which was organized by the group ‘Protect Democracy’.

What’s interesting is in their tweet about this, ABC News made it sounds like these were current DOJ officials:

Why did they leave out ‘former’? I guess they like to ‘bait and switch’ their readers.

Secondly, and more importantly, I am glad that ABC News mentioned that “Protect Democracy” is the group that organized this letter. But what they don’t tell you is the most important thing about this group, which is critically important in understanding the motivation behind this letter: They are an anti-Trump hack political group created to oppose Trump.

Influence Watch describes Protect Democracy as a “left-of-center litigation and advocacy organization created to oppose the policies of President Donald Trump.”

Politico writes about the group, saying “Top lawyers who helped the Obama White House craft and hold to rules of conduct believe President Donald Trump and his staff will break ethics norms meant to guard against politicization of the government — and they’ve formed a new group to prepare, and fight.” They wrote this in February of 2017, barely a month after Trump took office.

Why wouldn’t ABC News mention this? Because they don’t want their readers to know the truth, that what happened to Michael Flynn was atrocious and AG Barr did the right thing in closing the case.
