As you may have seen on the news by now, Amazon has pulled out of their big $3 billion deal to build a new headquarters in New York City that would also bring over 25,000 high paying jobs with it.
Here’s what they say in their press release via the New York Post:
“For Amazon, the commitment to build a new headquarters requires positive, collaborative relationships with state and local elected officials who will be supportive over the long-term,” the company said.
“While polls show that 70 percent of New Yorkers support our plans and investment, a number of state and local politicians have made it clear that they oppose our presence and will not work with us to build the type of relationships that are required to go forward with the project we and many others envisioned in Long Island City.”
Now of course Ocasio-Cortez isn’t a state or local politician, but she has been campaigning against this for months now and certainly represents those Democrats in her state that opposed it.
She’s already celebrating the pull-out on Twitter:
Anything is possible: today was the day a group of dedicated, everyday New Yorkers & their neighbors defeated Amazon’s corporate greed, its worker exploitation, and the power of the richest man in the world. https://t.co/nyvm5vtH9k
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) February 14, 2019
Here are a few of her past tweets on it:
Can everyday people come together and effectively organize against creeping overreach of one of the world’s biggest corporations?
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) February 8, 2019
Yes, they can.https://t.co/DqQoL7VH7O
Nothing Amazon has said or done - including selling facial recognition technology to ICE & its intent to fight against worker unionization - would lead us to believe it could be a good or healthy neighbor for NYC. https://t.co/BwASshxJ9F
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) February 1, 2019
Now what I DON’T want is for our public funds to be funding freebie helipads for Amazon + robber baron billionaires, all while NYCHA and public schools go underfunded & mom+pops get nowhere near that kind of a break.
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) December 4, 2018
While there isn’t enough money for hot water in NYCHA, we’re giving $3 billion away to Amazon.
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) November 17, 2018
“Ocasio-Cortez called the Amazon deal “dressed-up trickle-down economics.”
“What we’re seeing here is a complete public cost for a private corporate benefit.” https://t.co/kXimyE5RRi
There are a lot more tweets from her on this, but you get the picture. Because of AOC and her ilk, which are the Democrat state and local politicians who opposed this, major economic growth has been stymied. That’s 25,000 jobs with an average salary of $150,000 per year, or $3,750,000,000 per year, all lost.
This is socialism for ya.
But hey New York, this is what you deserve for voting in these ridiculous Democrat politicians. You made your bed and now they’re gonna make you lie in it.
