Anal retentive MLB commish Bud Selig nixes Nationals’ plans to honor Navy SEALs

I don’t get this at all. The Washington Nationals recently decided they’d like to pay tribute to the Navy SEALs who recently died in Afghanistan by wearing special hats during a game. Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig said no, apparently because the league has a rule that special hats are reserved for national tributes, where every team across the league participates. Uniform patches and so forth are possible alternatives, a league spokesman said.

Whatever. The Nats want to do hats. The Yankees and Mets were permitted to wear ‘FDNY’ and ‘NYPD’ hats after 9/11; how is this any different? Would it kill Bud Selig to make an exception in this case? Better yet, why doesn’t he take the hint and propose a league-wide tribute to the SEALs?
