[UPDATE: MCCARTHY NOT HAPPY] -“And then you realize they’re inviting you to an orgy” – Madison Cawthorn describes disturbing perversion he’s seen in DC

A clip from an interview with Madison Cawthorn is making the rounds where he describes the perversion he’s seen in the nation’s capital since he’s been there and it’s disturbing:

Cawthorn is being asked if Kevin Spacey’s House of Cards is more fiction or more reality in DC.

Here’s his response:

“The sexual perversion that goes on in Washington, I mean, being kind of a young guy in Washington where the average age is probably 60 or 70 – I look at a lot of these people, a lot of them that I’ve looked up to through my life ― I’ve always paid attention to politics… Then all of a sudden you get invited to, ‘Oh hey, we’re going to have a sexual get-together at one of our homes, you should come.’ I’m like, what did you just ask me to come to? And then you realize they’re asking you to come to an orgy. Or the fact that some of the people are leading a movement to try and remove addiction in our country and then you watch then doing a key bump of cocaine right in front of you.”

Meghan McCain retweeted this spinning it into a perversion web of MAGA people or something and that’s what the left is going with:

But that’s dumb and misleading. I’m sure Meghan McCain knows better than anyone that despite how Congressmen and Senators from opposing sides may fight in public, they are often good friends otherwise and I think that’s what Cawthorn is talking about here.

I have no doubt that the underbelly of DC, packed full of rich elites who are also full of themselves and their power, is pretty damn ugly and corrupt. So I think what Cawthorn is saying here is entirely believable.

UPDATE: Apparently Cawthorn’s remarks have upset his Republican colleagues, via Politico, and he’s going to get a talking to…

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is planning to sit down with Rep. Madison Cawthorn and talk to the North Carolina Republican about his latest incendiary public comment — suggesting that some of his colleagues invited him to orgies as well as used cocaine in front of him.

During a closed-door House GOP conference meeting on Tuesday, multiple Republicans in the room said lawmakers stood up to air their anger and frustration over Cawthorn portraying his own colleagues as bacchanalian and sexual deviants.

In one case, Rep. Steve Womack (R-Ark.) stood up and addressed his colleagues, telling them that he rarely speaks during the closed-door weekly meetings but felt he must address the topic because he’s now getting questions about participants in Cawthorn’s alleged orgies and drug use. Womack remarked that many lawmakers go to bed at 9 p.m. and still use fax machines and flip phones, stating that it was inappropriate to paint them with a broad brush, as Cawthorn did.

I don’t recall Cawthorn naming names or even party identification. He did say that it was people he’d looked up to in the past while growing up, which suggests that might be a Republican. But clearly McCarthy and crew think he’s talking about them and are upset about having to take shots over this.

Whatever. It sounds like Cawthorn was telling the truth here and as I suggested, it’s entirely believable.
