Are these bullet holes in the windshield of the Amtrak that derailed?

We are hearing reports today that a Septa commuter train was hit by ‘projectiles’ minutes before the separate Amtrak train derailed:

PHILLY – A projectile hit a SEPTA train minutes before an Amtrak train derailed in Philadelphia Tuesday night, SEPTA spokeswoman Jerri Williams confirmed.

Williams said investigators do not believe the SEPTA incident is related in any way to the derailment.

The projectile hit and busted the engineer’s window on a northbound SEPTA train that was headed to Trenton on tracks that run along the Amtrak rails, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer. About 80 passengers were put on buses to continue their trip.

Here’s a photo of the Septa train:

I’m not sure but that ‘projectile’ looks like it might have been a bullet.

So five minutes after the Septa train was hit, Amtrak derailed. It’s being reported that it was going over 100mph at derailment.

Here’s a photo of the front of the Amtrak:

That looks like it could have also been struck by a ‘projectile’ as well, perhaps a bullet.

In case you are wondering if this indeed is a photo of the Amtrak train that derailed, compare it to this one:

It’s the same train as far as I can tell. This raises the question: If indeed these are bullet holes in the front of both trains, were they being being targeted by a terrorist group?

It’s so early and there is so much we don’t know yet. But even if officials suspected terrorism early on, they probably wouldn’t say it until they are sure about it. I’m sure they don’t want to panic the whole passenger train industry over a suspicion.

I guess we’ll find out more soon.
