The artist Belo recently created a video of an art installation made to raise awareness of the need for clean drinking water around the world. What he produced, however, was not just a cry to preserve life as we know it, but to preserve life in the womb as well.
It’s a beautiful image and a haunting thought. It should speak to everyone’s sense of humanity to imagine that unborn child and the parents waiting to nurture him or her that a lack of proper water could mean never being born. It is an even more haunting reminder that some struggle through incredible hardship to bring life into this world under unimaginable circumstances, while those lucky enough to live in a country like ours can toss it casually aside for the sake of trivial matters like convenience or timing.
Art sometimes speaks its own voice, rather than merely that of the artist. This is truly one of those moments. It speaks for children everywhere, born and unborn.
