AWESOME: Trump confronted Gov. Cuomo about horrible NY abortion law, fracking!

Well this is interesting.

Recently New York’s despicable Governor Cuomo traveled to the White House to discuss state business with Trump. It was on that occasion that Trump confronted Cuomo about their recently passed abortion law and Democrats support for late term abortion:

POLITICO – President Donald Trump floated the idea of opening up New York to fracking and expressed dismay at New York’s enactment of a less-restrictive abortion law during a meeting with Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday, according to a White House spokesman.

Cuomo traveled to Washington to talk to his fellow New Yorker about the impact of the federal government’s $10,000 cap on the deductibility of state and local taxes. The governor is blaming the cap, which was included in federal tax reform passed in late 2017, for a drop in revenue that has created a $2.3 billion gap in his proposed budget.

Trump has also been attacking recent Democratic efforts to liberalize abortion laws in states like New York and Virginia, a issue that has lit up conservative and Christian media. Deere said Trump “raised his concerns to Governor Cuomo about Democrats’ support of late term abortions.”

The newly enacted Reproductive Health Act shifted abortion from New York’s penal code to the health statute, and allows for the procedure to be performed after 24 weeks of pregnancy if the woman’s life or health is in jeopardy. The state’s previous law, which was passed in 1970 and later superseded by Roe v. Wade, only allowed for abortions if a woman’s life were in immediate danger.

Cuomo said he wasn’t surprised by Trump’s comments, as he “governs by division” and that they have a fundamental disagreement on these issues.

“He wants to roll back Roe v. Wade … take us back to a time when women couldn’t get an abortion legally, and we in New York State have legalized a woman’s right to choose, so we have a total difference of opinion on that,” Cuomo said. “They deny climate change, even though anyone who has a television or a radio hears the extreme weather we have all the time.”

I do like hearing that Trump made his concerns known to Cuomo on their baby-murdering abortion law. It tells us that Trump, both in private and in public, is consistent on the issue. Cuomo even said Trump wants to roll back Roe v. Wade, which is the exact position I’d hope he’d have.

Trump also tried to convince Cuomo to solve his SALT (state and local taxes) revenue problems by opening the state up to fracking:

Cuomo traveled to Washington to talk to his fellow New Yorker about the impact of the federal government’s $10,000 cap on the deductibility of state and local taxes. The governor is blaming the cap, which was included in federal tax reform passed in late 2017, for a drop in revenue that has created a $2.3 billion gap in his proposed budget.

“President Trump talked about the positive impacts of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act on the American economy, and the President listened to the Governor’s concerns regarding SALT,” Deputy Press Secretary Judd Deere said in a statement. “The President reiterated the negative impact that high taxes in states like New York have on hardworking families and job creators.”

Cuomo, speaking on a radio show Tuesday evening, said that Trump appeared open to revisiting SALT, and White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow promised to take a look at it.

According to Deere, Trump suggested that the state could offset the effects of the SALT cap by allowing fracking, which Cuomo banned in 2014, and by approving fossil fuel pipelines to run through the state,

“The President discussed economic growth opportunities for the State of New York, including helping lower energy prices throughout the entire Northeast by allowing low-cost, American energy to thrive with fracking and pipeline systems,” Deer said.

I love that Trump is pushing Cuomo like this – it’s excellent!

And again, this is exactly what I’d hope Trump would be doing in these meetings.
