Senator Ben Sasse just ripped into Trump’s new steel and aluminum tariffs on our three biggest trading partners: Canada, Europe, and Mexico.
Here’s what he had to say:
About those new tariffs: Europe, Canada & Mexico aren't China. You don’t treat allies the same way you treat opponents. Blanket protectionism is a big part of why we had a Great Depression. "Make America Great Again" shouldn’t mean "Make America 1929 Again."

“Make America Great Again” shouldn’t mean “Make America 1929 Again.”
Exactly! The last thing we want to do is go back to one of the worst economic times in our history, or at the very least head in that direction. We just passed solid tax reform a few months ago and now Trump and his stupid trade war is going to force prices upward on many consumer products.
I hope we see similar statements from other Republicans in Congress.
