CNN reports this morning that the feds are now going after Chris Christie for allegedly misusing Sandy relief funds to help him get reelected. Now this isn’t the first time we’ve heard a complaint made regarding this issue. Rand Paul, back in November, grilled HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan on this in a committee hearing on Hurricane Sandy recovery, asking if it’s appropriate for hurricane relief money to be spent on TV ads, especially given that HUD have to issue a waiver for relief to be used this way.
Even though Rand Paul brought it up to HUD in November, we’ve not heard anything on it until now. Of course. Democrat Frank Pallone, who called for the investigation, says it’s not about politics. But of course it is. They have a big scandal connected to Christie’s closest aides and Democrats are already talking impeachment. And now, suddenly, they are interested in whether he misused Sandy relief funds to get reelected? Yeah, they smell blood in the water and are going for the kill.
That said, I think Christie should be punished if he used hurricane relief funds to help him get reelected. That’s a horrible thing to do. But let’s not pretend this isn’t about politics for the Democrats.
