CBS News Editor in Chief Bari Weiss refused to air a story last night on 60 Minutes about the prison in El Salvador, to which President Trump sent Venezuelan illegal criminals and gangbangers.
After Weiss pulled the story, she was accused of spiking the story and of political bias by the reporter who worked on the story, claiming her reporting had passed the highest bar or something.
See 3rd paragraph:
Point of fact, Sharyn Alfonsi is the same dishonest reporter who tried to invent a scandal back in 2021, accusing DeSantis of choosing Publix to distribute vaccines to the public because he was favoring wealthy connected CEOs and businessmen.
Since then, Bari Weiss sent an email to her colleagues at CBS News, explaining in detail why she pulled the story. In short, she isn’t spiking the story at all. Rather, she just found glaring contextual holes in the story and wants the team working on it to improve it, to work harder to get more context for the arguments on both sides of the issue, in order to keep from doing a disservice to their viewers.
Here’s what she wrote:
AG Hamilton, who recalled that this is the same reporter who wrote the bogus DeSantis/Publix hit piece, says Weiss needs to fire her over the way she overreacted to the story being pulled. And because she’s a dishonest hack for a reporter:
The entire reason I recognize the name is that she was the reporter behind the bogus DeSantis/Publix hit piece. It was one of the most blatantly dishonest pieces of journalism I can ever remember. I would never trust a reporter who ran with such a story again.
In addition, the fact that she reacted by trying to smear her bosses and @bariweiss instead of working to update the story in a way that gets it to pass their standards only furthers my assumptions that she’s an activist who is upset that she can no longer abuse her platform to push an agenda.
Bari should clean house of the people who feel entitled to behave this way.
The entire reason I recognize the name is that she was the reporter behind the bogus DeSantis/publix hit piece.
