BOOM! Manchin and Sinema refuse calls to kill the filibuster to codify Roe v Wade into law (but here’s what worries me)

Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema are standing firm and resisting calls from members of their party, including their top loon Joe Biden, from killing the filibuster so that Democrats can codify Roe v Wade into law.

Both have already weighed in today, making their position very clear:

DAILY MAIL – Moderate Democrat Sens. Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema are standing firm in support of the filibuster, resisting President Biden’s call for Congress to codify abortion rights and calls from within their party to abolish the 60-vote hurdle.

‘The filibuster is a protection of democracy,’ Manchin, D-W.Va., told reporters when pressed about calls to codify abortion rights after a leaked draft Supreme Court opinion revealed a majority of justices were in favor of reversing Roe v. Wade.

A spokesperson for Sinema, D-Ariz., said that the filibuster was ‘more important than ever,’ citing seven times in the past it had protected against abortion rights infringements.

‘Protections in the Senate safeguarding against the erosion of women’s access to health care have been used half-a-dozen times in the past 10 years, and are more important now than ever,’ the Sinema spokesperson told Axios.

‘A woman’s health care choices should be between her, her family, and her doctor. Overturning Roe v. Wade endangers the health and wellbeing of women in Arizona and across America,’ she added.

Even without the filibuster, Democrats likely wouldn’t have the votes to codify abortion rights.

In February Manchin voted with Republicans in opposition to the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA), which would codify abortion rights, a bill that had already passed the House. Democrats would likely need to pick up more seats in the Senate this fall, in addition to ending the filibuster, for abortion legislation to get to President Biden’s desk.

Now of course this is wonderful news because if Manchin and Sinema were going to fold on an issue, this would be the one as it’s the biggest issue in the Democrat party.

But unlike some other conservative sites, I’m not so sure this is over yet. I’m not ready to call this notion of codifying Roe v Wade into law ‘dead on arrival’. The reason is because we have RINOs in our midst who might betray us.

Here’s one that worries me:

Murkowski says “I will just tell you that it rocks my confidence in the court right now”, referring to the potential overturning of Roe v Wade in two months.

She is exactly the kind of backstabber who might end the filibuster just to protect the pro-baby murder ‘law of the land’. I have zero confidence in her on this issue and I wouldn’t be shocked at all if she did it just to become a heroine for Democrats by helping them do this.

As far as Susan Collins or Mitt Romney, I don’t think they would vote to end the filibuster but I’m not counting those chicken either until they cluck and make that clear.
