Secretary of State Pompeo is taking a second trip to North Korea tonight, and there’s a report that he’s bringing back the 3 U.S. hostages the Norks have captured.
The report comes from Yonhap News:
North Korea is expected to release three U.S. citizens held in the communist state on Wednesday, an official from Seoul’s presidential office Cheong Wa Dae said, in an apparent goodwill gesture ahead of a historic meeting between its leader Kim Jong-un and U.S. President Donald Trump.
The official said U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was expected to return with the exact time of the Trump-Kim summit, along with the three U.S. captives in North Korea.
“We expect him to bring the date, time and the captives,” the official said, while speaking on condition of anonymity.
Pompeo arrived in Pyongyang earlier in the day, according to reports, marking his second trip to the reclusive North in less than a month.
If it’s true, it would be an enormous coup for Trump, and I don’t see how anyone could criticize him for it – though some will find something of course. On the other hand, it’s silly for him to say the Obama administration couldn’t save the hostages, when 2 of the 3 were captured during Trump’s term.
