BREAKING: Academy condemns Will Smith, says it’s beginning a formal review

The Academy has finally condemned the violence the world saw on stage last night at the Oscars when Will Smith slapped the s**t out of Chris rock:

FOX NEWS – The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences is launching a formal review into the Will Smith and Chris Rock altercation during the Oscars Sunday evening.

In a statement Monday, a spokesperson for the film academy told Variety: “The Academy condemns the actions of Mr. Smith at last night’s show. We have officially started a formal review around the incident and will explore further action and consequences in accordance with our Bylaws, Standards of Conduct and California law.”

The academy previously issued a statement on Sunday, stating that it “does not condone violence of any form.”

Some academy members, like writer-producer Marshall Herskovitz, called for the Academy to take disciplinary action against Smith.

“He disgraced our entire community tonight,” wrote Herskovitz on Twitter.

I wonder what in the heck took The Academy so long to issue this statement. After all, Chris Rock was their chosen host for the event and he was assault on stage in front of the entire world. I would have thought a formal review would have begun first thing this morning, if not earlier.

Either way, I suppose it is a good thing that they are examining the consequences they can levy on Smith. But I doubt it will mean anything other than him being uninvited in the future.
