[UPDATE: TRUMP PULLED HIM] – Acting Defense Secretary WITHDRAWING his nomination!

Well this is a shock. Trump just announced that Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan is withdrawing his nomination:

Wow. This is so sudden it makes me wonder what they found in Shanahan’s background that might have been a problem for him in the confirmation process. Or did he just have a change of heart?

[UPDATE: According to Fox News, Trump lost confidence in Shanahan’s nomination after the D-Day events (controversy over Navy shipped named after John McCain’s father) as well as some investigation into allegations of domestic abuse after a terrible divorce.

In fact they report that the White House had stalled Shanahan’s nomination, never sending it to Capitol Hill to get the ball rolling.]

I did a quick search and found a few pictures of Secretary of the Army Mark Esper:

UPDATE 2: This is an article from today on the FBI investigating Shanahan over domestic fight…

  1. Well…maybe if his acting was better. (Looking around) What? What? (arms extended out to sides) Oh come on!

  2. Domestic violence is so difficult to judge when it’s he said/she said. I have known a pathological liar in my time and there are people that make things up. I can’t support either side without supporting evidence. I never hold public standing in favor of anyone either. Many times they are where evil resides, like pastors that molest young boys.

I hope the FBI is able to get to the bottom of it and truth prevails.

  3. Part of the Democrat Cloward-Pivens strategy – make if impossible for anyone to take a position in the Trump administration.

Democrat Mean Machine is cranked up full power. Look what they did to Kavanaugh when there was nothing. You can imagine what they will do in any normal persons life. Look what they just did to the kid who had his Harvard acceptance yanked. They own us now.

Democrats are very, very bad people. The unions who control them are desperate to get their hands back on the government check book.

    1. Of course there is. It’s called “Donald’s snap judgment.”

He only hires the best people y’know.

(That said, I’m not ready to judge Shanahan without facts.)

    2. Does the Princess feel the pee. Drop your innocent guile. And Clinton could still not beat Trump. Why was that.

      1. Are you making a pee tape reference? If so, what does that have to do with this situation?

    3. So, he does the right thing and you’re still whining like a child? They found out, they let him go. Guess Trump is supposed to have a time machine and ESP and all that, right? Whinebag.

    4. All things considered, this domestic violence thing couldn’t have been that serious. Most states have laws where both participants in domestic fights get arrested and there’s been no discussion of verdicts on same in this instance.

      1. Internet search gave info that the son had an altercation with the mother fracturing her skull with a baseball bat. Too many details to link here. Plenty of info available @boats48

  4. Maybe Dr. Christine Blasey Ford remembers Shanahan being at a college party 30 years ago?

    Does Shanahan like beer too?

      1. Might be a good idea to have the FBI look into that. Or check Kavanaugh’s calendar.

  5. Thank you for the updates and the picture of Secretary of the Army Mark Esper. Much appreciated!

  6. There is probably a police report and court documents regarding their divorce to support not confirming him.More than just a he said she said.

  7. As a man, if you’re involved in a domestic incident, you’ll be taking the blame whether you were at fault or not. His wife could’ve been a nut but that’ll never matter now. He’s a man so he’ll go down, regardless. Especially after the propaganda machine gets hold of it.

If he did actually hurt his wife, or whatever it was, he deserves what he gets but all to often the man gets shafted. Equality my ass.

      1. @atomicsentinel You should be banned from this site for saying the “F” word the other day while in the middle of making a case for electing virtuous candidates. Where is @therightscoop ?

  8. The old devote more time to his family trick, but in reality it was a matter of who had the best left hook.

  9. What happened at the D-Day events? I thought it went well?

I like Shanahan. He was very strong on China, knowing it to be enemy #1. I hope Esper is just as strong or stronger.

    1. It was about the Navy ship named after John McCain’s father being covered because they thought Trump wouldn’t want to see it.

I wish they wouldn’t say shit like that to the media. Because that immediately becomes “He beats his wife. Probably beat her for 20 years. With a pipe wrench. Let’s hang him.”

Instantly, the facts stop mattering and the ignorant, ignorant Court of Public Opinion goes into full gear. I despise watching that play out.

    1. @atomicsentinel for someone who is so adamant on choosing virtuous candidates, you sure curse a lot! I would hate to psycho-analyze, but do you think your dislike of Trump’s because of what you claim as lack of virtues is a projection issue?

      1. Is this where you petulantly whine about form over substance for a couple hours, when in reality you don’t disagree with me at all – but your personal loathing of me consumes your ability to acknowledge it?

I’m starting to think you and a couple other folks need to start a group therapy over this.

        1. @atomicsentinel I don’t loath you at all! I actually admire your tenacity to being wrong. Why do you evade the question? As someone who preaches of choosing virtuous candidates, I would at least expect less vulgar from you.

          1. Perhaps I don’t see vulgarity as a basis of virtue. Feel free to scroll back through my feed. Have I ever complained about Tinyhands Orangina being vulgar? Nope.

Not an issue for me. His progressivism is what’s an issue for me.

  11. Can’t have any baggage these days and even if you don’t, they will make stuff up…What the left is doing by intense pressure is to stop anyone from stepping up and it makes it quite difficult to find good people. It’s the lefts goal…

            1. “Not an issue for me. His progressivism is what’s an issue for me.”

What “progressivism”? Who did you vote for in last few elections?

              1. Donald’s big government big spending authoritarianism ignore checks and balances and abuse legal loopholes progressivism.

As for who I voted for? None of your business. But I will tell you that my ballot was not cast for the Republican or the Democrat. Same with the midterm elections. I am done giving my consent vis a vis my vote to their crap.

                1. Let’s address these.

                  “Big government”
                  1) In fact, Trump has reduced the size of government with his federal hiring freeze
                  2) Reduced regulations with the 2 for 1 rule.

                  “authoritarianism”
Seriously? How’s he authoritarian? Do you feel like you need to be in safe space when he tweets?

Explain how he’s ignoring checks and balances and abuses legal loopholes exactly?

Me asking about your voting was just so I can figure out if you are a Bush/McCain/Romney guy.

                2. Big government: in that he sincerely believes that it’s the government’s job to solve every problem in America.

Regulations: 2 for 1 hasn’t had any substantive effect. Dumping meaningless regulations that nobody knew or cared about is a show gesture.

                  Authoritarian: National. Emergency. Act.

Ignoring checks and balances: National. Emergency. Act.

                  Legal Loopholes: National. Emergency. Act.

I could give you a lot more besides the NEA too. Like his apparent desire to inject himself in the social media “censoring.” Or on college campuses.

                3. @atomicsentinel You gotta be freaking joking!!

First of all, using NEA for this country’s security is not a “loophole”!!! How in the f#%@ do you come up with that? It’s exactly what it’s created for. A loop hole is if he used it to sup up Airforce One or using it to fund building green energy!

                  updated:
Your arguments are too silly to even address, but you aren’t be specific on why you think he is “big government”. Just saying he uses government to address problems is stupid. What do you want him to do, use his Trump org.? Ofcourse he’s gotta use government–he’s the head of the federal government. But it’s astonishing that you don’t even give him credit for being the first president in a long time to reduce the federal work force! He is essentially doing the opposite of all presidents before him–decreasing the federal empire instead of increasing it!

                4. I’m dead serious. I’m one-foot on the impeachment train over his abuses of the NEA.

Congress. Said. No. The PEOPLE said no. The NEA was not designed to be an end-run around them – even if its poor drafting allows that to happen. If he’d employed the NEA to do anything but what Congress explicitly denied him, we’d be having a different conversation.

But he didn’t. He could have come up with other ways to deal with the nation’s security and pitch them to Congress, but he didn’t. He could listen to Congress and try to work at a bilateral solution, but he didn’t. He’s gotta fulfill that wall promise, otherwise his cult will abandon him. And he’ll abuse whatever he has to do it.

                5. Are you not getting the full story? He’s been working with Congress to try to get funding for wall for several years, so when that didn’t work, he used the NEA and the NEA was supported with Barr’s justice dept. So you obviously think you know more than Barr on the uses of the NEA? Are you an attorney?

                6. so when that didn’t work, he used the NEA

                  THINK ABOUT THAT.

Congress EXPLICITLY does not want a wall. A Republican Congress told him no. A Democrat Congress told him no.

So what did he do? Exactly what you said. “Used” the NEA. In a way it was clearly never intended to get what he wants even though Congress – the People – told him no over and over. Come up with another plan Donald.

But no. The would-be autocrat has to get his wall. “Whatever it takes” – which is the anti-conservative extremely progressive motto of this administration in a nutshell.

And anybody with a brain saw it coming in 2016.

        1. I don’t buy the “he’s only 16” argument. If he were were a pinko leftist saying that he wished the President were dead or that he loved abortion because it results in less white people, and a college booted him for that, we’d all be spiking a football in his face.

Actions have consequences. I don’t have any love for Harvard, but this kid reaped what he sowed.

          1. @atomicsentinel Have you ever in your entire life said the “N” word and have you ever knowingly associated with anyone who said the “N” word?

            YES OR NO!?

            1. I’m not participating in the derailing of this thread any further. If you want me to keep slapping you around, go back to the Harvard thread.

              1. Let it be known that @atomicsentinel is evading the question. I’ll take that to mean the answer is “YES” on your part! Congratulations, you are hence banned from anything!

          2. And another voice supporting “people can never change” side. Thank you, AT. I’m sure you have not changed since you have been 16, right?

      1. @atomicsentinel You should be banned from this site for saying the “F” word the other day while in the middle of making a case for electing virtuous candidates. Where is @therightscoop ?

        1. See, the difference between you and me Abe – is, as a person of principle with a respect for freedom and rights, I can tolerate your disagreement with me on a variety of issues. I’d never say that you should be banned for anything.

You cannot do the same. You have no principles. Just outrage. You have no respect for freedom. Just control. You go seeking authority and searching for bans for that which you cannot stand.

Congratulations. Your transformation to Progressive Snowflake is now complete. Now go find a safe space and a onesie pajama.

          1. @atomicsentinel I forgot that I have to make things super clear to you as you have a presumption issue. I was only joking, but I just find it ironic that you curse a lot in the middle of making a case against choosing candidates that curse!? lol WTF? I’m not a psychologist, but I know there is a term for that!

BTW: I’m pretty consistent on this, for the many years on social media, I’ve never called for the banning of anyone and I rarely flag anyone!

            1. Ahh, yes, the immediate fallback position of the progressive leftist.

              “I was only joking!”

Kinda like J-Mao’s “dry humor” that went over everyone’s head. Uh huh. Wink wink.

              1. LOL. Ok, more presumptions on your part. Now you reminded me why I stopped communicating with you. Have a nice day!

                1. @atomicsentinel you’re not very clever. Obviously I’m not talking about your quote of me. I’m talking about your presumption that I am using “joking” as a “fall back” position. It was a joke FROM THE START, but you obviously didn’t get it! As I stated, I’ve never ever called for the banning of ANYONE! After all, I’ve also used vulgar language myself from time to time, so it would be silly to call for banning anyone for that.

                2. @AT You should be banned from this site

You realize that people can read what you wrote, right?

I mean, did you learn nothing from Kashuv at all?

                3. I may be wrong, but I thought the person with average understanding on this site, would see that as a joke. Now stop whining about it! You don’t need to worry–they don’t ban people from here for being vulgar!

  21. Can’t have any baggage these days and even if you don’t, they will make stuff up…What the left is doing by intense pressure is to stop anyone from stepping up and it makes it quite difficult to find good people. It’s the lefts goal…
