BREAKING: Anna Paulina Luna says Leader Thune discussing alternative to get SAVE Act passed in Senate

Anna Paulina just posted a few minutes ago and suggested that Leader Thune is discussing an alternative way to get the SAVE Act passed in the Senate, using a ‘standing filibuster’.

Here’s what she wrote:

Just left the White House. POTUS wants the SAVE America Act passed! Voter ID is number one. Today, Schumer said he wants mass amnesty for all illegals and to immediately stop all ICE efforts.

After speaking with many senators, as well as directly with POTUS, the pathway forward is through the standing filibuster. This would effectively keep the government open while allowing Republican senators to break through the “zombie” filibuster and put the SAVE America Act up for a vote on the Senate floor.

The standing filibuster is not common parliamentary procedure, but it is one of the only mechanisms available to go around senators who want to block voter ID.

@LeaderJohnThune we are very pleased that you are discussing the standing filibuster, and we believe you will go down in history if this is pulled off as one of the best leaders the Senate has ever had. Voter ID is a must, and the ball is now in your court.

We don’t know how significant these discussions are, but it would be a very interesting way of keeping a version of the filibuster. but one that can be defeated easier than the modern day filibuster.

So what is this standing filibuster? Grok explains it this way:

A “standing filibuster” (also commonly called a talking filibuster or traditional filibuster) refers to the classic, old-school version of a filibuster in the U.S. Senate.

In this approach, a senator (or a tag-team of senators) must physically hold the floor by standing and speaking continuously for as long as possible to delay or block a vote on legislation. They cannot sit down, leave the floor, or stop talking (except perhaps to yield briefly for a question from an ally, which allows a short break while still retaining control of the floor). The goal is to “talk the bill to death” by running out the clock or wearing down the majority until they give up or compromise.

I’m sure President Trump is pressuring Thune to get the SAVE Act passed, so we’ll see if this is the route he takes versus nuking the modern day filibuster, which is simply the 60-vote threshold.
