Democrats are freaking out right now because they really thought they would be able to keep Katie Hill’s seat from California and instead Republican Mike Garcia swept in and snatched it away:
All over in #CA25: Democrat Christy Smith has decided she's seen enough, and has conceded the race to now-Rep.-elect Mike Garcia, a Republican. BIG win for Republicans in a district Clinton carried in 2016 and one that wasn't particularly close in the midterms pic.twitter.com/cr68e8qvyx

Boom! That’s the first time in DECADES that the Republicans have been able to flip a seat in California. It’s a big deal.
I wouldn’t say that it’s a sign of a turning point necessarily though. California is still commie red, and it definitely hurt the Democrats to have Katie Hill be taken down by a nasty “throuple” controversy. Further, they tossed a LOT of money to get Hill over the top in the first place, and this had been a conservative district for many decades before they flipped it. Finally, he’s going to have run again for the seat in November!
On the other hand, Hillary Clinton did take the district by 6 percentage points. At the very least, it’s a big loss when Democrats were really hoping to keep the seat. And frankly I enjoy anything that makes Cenk Uygur cry:
It pisses me off so much that Republicans outvote us when we have more people. We have to fix this dynamic. @ChristyforCA25 lost tonight despite Dems having the advantage in #CA25. We should unite around policy so we can unite electorally to send @MikeGarcia2020 home in November.
