Fox News reporter Bill Melugin says that DHS has confirmed they are actively investigating Somalis for denaturalization, if they’ve committed frauld that would warrant such a case.
Here’s the news:
NEW: DHS confirms to @FoxNews they are actively auditing immigration cases for Somali U.S. citizens to look for fraud that would warrant potential denaturalization (stripping of U.S. citizenship). They are also auditing cases for migrants from 18 other countries of concern.
Brief DHS statement to FOX via @TriciaOhio:
“Under U.S. law, if an individuals procures citizenship on a fraudulent basis, that is grounds for denaturalization.”
This as several GOP members of Congress have called for Somalis convicted in the MN fraud scheme to be denaturalized & deported.
Denaturalization is a very rare process, with typically only between a dozen to a few dozen cases per year going back to the 1990s. It is also lengthy, resource intensive, and has a high legal burden to meet. The government *must* prove illegal procurement during the citizenship process.
Marriage fraud, any false representations to obtain citizenship etc will be the things DHS will be looking at with these cases.
If they’ve committed fraud in any way, either to become citizens or steal taxpayer money, then get them the hell out of the country. Get ‘er done!
