The FBI says the failed IED terror attack in New York City by two Muslim suspects was ISIS inspired. They say both suspects made pro-ISIS statements during questioning.
They also say they are investigating whether the suspects became self-radicalized.
Here’s the news:
Federal sources describe a “terror investigation” now underway into the confirmed IEDs and suspicious device that were found near Gracie Mansion over the weekend
My sources say the two suspects, Emir Balat and Ibrahim Kayumi, made pro-ISIS statements while in custody
Investigators are looking at their past travel to Turkey and potential other locations known as terror training grounds.
Investigators searched their homes Newtown, PA (Kayumi’s home) and Langhorne, PA (Balat’s home) and I’m told other people were taken into custody — (note: NOT arrested)
Two federal sources tell me it's appropriate to say the FBI examining whether the two suspects, IBRAHIM KAYUMI AND EMIR BALAT, became "self-radicalized" https://t.co/9CM8xp1bj7
